This past weekend CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO) and the City of Ottawa's Integrated Road Safety Program (IRSP) co-sponsored the final two of its four additional Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) programs with the goal of eliminating impaired driving on Ottawa's roads this holiday season.

OTTAWA, OCTOBER 26, 2009 - CAA Supports Distracted Driving Legislation

Now more than ever, CAA North & East Ontario would like to remind all motorists to keep their eyes on the road, as Ontario's ban on the use of hand held electronic devices while driving takes effect today. The province joins Quebec, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland in the ban that seeks to limit driver distractions and reduce collisions.

Along with beautiful foliage, autumn brings with it active wildlife and, unfortunately, an increased number of vehicle collisions with animals. This fall, CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO) would like to remind motorists to exercise caution and vigilance when driving, as October, November and December are peak periods for wildlife collisions.

As millions of Ontario students head back to school this week, CAA North & East Ontario (CAANEO) would like to remind everyone to study up on school bus safety. Ontario law requires motorists travelling in both directions to stop when approaching a stopped school bus with its upper red lights flashing.

Today, following a six week campaign in which CAA encouraged frustrated Ontario motorists to voice their concerns over our crumbling infrastructure, the Ontario Worst Roads Campaign released it’s Top Twenty Worst Municipal Roads for 2008. This year’s campaign included a call for politicians of all stripes to address the historically inadequate investments to infrastructure maintenance and improvement.

OTTAWA, OCTOBER 31, 2007 - KEEPING THE ROADS SAFE FOR HALLOWEEN HAUNTING

On Halloween, the streets of Ottawa will be filled with superheroes, movie stars, and even Sponge Bobs seeking tricks and (mostly) treats. While these characters reap the fun of Halloween dashing from one house to the next, the need for automobile drivers to exude extra caution becomes paramount. The Ontario Ministry of Transportation recently reported that close to 20,603 collisions happen annually during October; 22 per cent of those collisions resulted in personal injury.



OTTAWA - HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS "CHOOSE THEIR RIDE"

Over 160 students from 52 Ottawa-area high schools will be participating in OAID's (Ottawa Alliance on Impaired Driving) "Choose Your Ride" event, to deliver a strong message about the dangers of impaired driving. The event will be taking place October 30 at the Nepean Sportsplex.

In 2003 it was a partial failure of the Sgt. Aubrey Cozens VC Memorial Bridge between Temagami and New Liskeard. In 2006 it was the Highway 19 overpass in Laval, Quebec. Now, in 2007, the collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota is a tragic reminder of the desperate need for all levels of government to increase funding to improve our infrastructure.

The CAANEO (Canadian Automobile Association of North & East Ontario) is charged up for the Sixth Annual Great Battery Roundup. This car battery recycling program takes place October 9 - 12 in Thunder Bay, Sudbury, and Ottawa.


CAA Calls for a Ban on Hand Held Electronic Devices for Novice Drivers

In June 2006, CAA called on all provincial legislatures to pass legislation or to amend their graduated licencing systems to include regulations that would prohibit novice drivers from using cell phones or other transportable electronic devices while driving.
