You probably already know that our nation turns 150 this July 1, but did you know that our fair City of Saints is more than doubling that? That’s right, as Canada celebrates its sesquicentennial this year, Montreal has been feting its own rich history – all 375 years of it.
Indeed, Alive375! (as it’s come to be known) is Montreal’s promise to locals and visitors alike to bustle like it never has before, with a rich and eclectic official program of activities on offer all summer – and year – long. As the city lights up and looks back on its past as one of North America’s great cultural, industrial and commercial cities today, be sure to fit a weekend away to this great destination.
After all, few escapes are as pleasurable – and as close – as Montreal, where visitors can enjoy life at a pace that is decidedly more European than Canadian, with a “joie de vivre” that permeates the whole city. Shop until you drop, then wine and dine the night away at the many boutiques and restaurants along Rue Sainte-Catherine. Then join in on summer fun at Montreal Jazz Festival or the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival.
With so much going on, it’s easy to see why Montreal is often referred to as “Canada’s Cultural Capital.” Don’t forget that your CAA Membership card is the key to unlocking fantastic deals and discounts on transportation, accommodations and attractions while you’re in town:
While you’re trip planning, remember to enter to win a CAA Member Experiences luxury trip for two to discover Eastern Canada, with tours in Toronto and Montreal! Contest is open until July 15, 2017.
