Winter is on its way. Is your car ready for it?

Here are 8 great tips to ensure your vehicle is road worth this season.

Temperatures are falling – winter is well on its way! Make sure your car is ready for whatever the season brings.

Rain, sleet, hail, snow or slush, follow CAA’s eight great tips to winter-proof your ride:

  1. Test your car battery. Fully charged automotive batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts. CAA’s Mobile Battery Service will come test, replace, and recycle your battery. Find out more about the program here.
  2. If the temperature drops below -15°C, consider using a block heater. This reduces stress on your vehicle’s engine and heats up the interior quicker.
  3. Use winter tires. The rubber in winter tires doesn’t harden like all-season tires, offering better grip on the road (all-season tires lose elasticity at around -7°C).
  4. Take your car into the shop for a maintenance check, especially if you plan on taking long road-trips. Find a CAA Approved Auto Repair Services facility here.
  5. Top up your windshield washer fluid and carry extra in your car. Make sure it is rated for -40°C.
  6. Keep your gas tank at least half full. This helps prevent your gas line from freezing and allows you to run your car for short periods for warmth if you get stuck.
  7. Check your vehicle’s manual to ensure you are adhering to the winter maintenance recommendations.
  8. Get your car winter-ready and save! Use your CAA Membership at our automotive partners across the country and receive great discounts.
  9. Car parts need replacing? NAPA Auto Parts offer CAA Members 10% off* on retail priced parts and accessories.
  10. Winter tires are essential and in some places, legally required for seasonal driving. Get your Pirelli wheels on and earn 20 CAA Dollars* with the purchase of four eligible tires.
