With around 250,000 lakes and more than 100,000 km of rivers, Ontario summers are all about ‘getting out on the water.’ Where do you start? Here are a few splashy suggestions.

Stand up paddling

Stand-up paddling (or SUP) is ideal for calm waters. The boards are broad and stable, and it’s a great alternative to canoeing. Try SUP on Dow’s Lake in Ottawa and Toronto Island or Bon Echo Park and Manitoulin Island.

Rafting your summer away

OWL Rafting

OWL Rafting

Rafting can be challenging, but guided by experienced professionals like OWL Rafting in Foresters Falls, Ontario, it’s a thrill. There’s never a dull moment – and CAA Members save 10% on whitewater trips and packages, too. Visit www.owlrafting.com.

Kayaking

Kayaking is another summer sport that doesn’t require a lot of technical know-how. Kayaking is great for calm waters but if you drop by the Madawaska Kanu Centre in Barry’s Bay, sign up for lessons, or try their famous five-day Yoga Whitewater Week.

Sail, ho!
