Have you ever wanted to stay in a castle? You can on your next trip or staycation in Ottawa. The historic Fairmont Chateau Laurier is a castle that offers world-class dining, luxury suites, and one-of-a-kind architecture in the city.

It is one of two Ottawa hotels to be awarded the CAA/AAA Four Diamond Award winners for 2022, and here’s why.

Four Diamond Awards

The annual Four Diamond Awards winners are selected based on anonymous inspections. They are reviewed for providing an exceptional experience, creativity and cleanliness by CAA/AAA and must meet outstanding standards to win this incredible achievement. Four Diamond Award winners are amongst just seven percent of hotels and restaurants reviewed by CAA/AAA in North America and the Caribbean. To view the complete list of winners, visit aaa.com/diamonds.

If you’ve ever visited Ottawa, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the Fairmont Chateau Laurier. It neighbours top attractions like the Parliament Buildings, Rideau Canal, ByWard Market and National Art Gallery.

The colossal castle is a city staple for locals and tourists alike, as the astonishing Gothic-like design makes for the perfect photo opportunity.

The interior is just as incredible. The hotel’s sophisticated lobby features antique furniture, high ceilings, hand-carved wood worked walls and a grand staircase. Upon entering, the stellar staff will greet you and make you feel at home.

The hotel offers various room designs, so the most challenging part of your visit will be choosing your favourite room. Want to wake up to views of Parliament? Pick the “View Room.” Need extra space for the kids to play around? Be sure to book a “Deluxe Room” with a larger layout, a sitting area, and a sleeping area. Luxury accommodation, warm hospitality, and luxurious decor are guaranteed regardless of which room you pick.

When staying at the Fairmount Chateau Laurier, there are endless things to do and see within a short walk, but there are also tons to do on the hotel grounds. Their hotel boasts top-of-the-line amenities, including a health club if you want to get in a workout, take a dip in a pool perfect for swimming a few laps, and visit their relaxing spa where you can get a massage.

Before you check out, you can take advantage of the picture-perfect photo opportunities. Head to the events room quarters for a selfie in the “Ballroom,” a renaissance-style ballroom dating back to 1912 with breathtaking design. Next, go to the castle’s famous balcony for unparalleled views of the Ottawa River and Parliament Hill. And lastly, a short walk across Rideau Street will give you the right angle to get a shot of the iconic castle’s exterior.

If one restaurant in the castle is a must-visit, is Zoe's. From smoked cocktails to meticulously crafted plates, Zoe's never disappoints. Start the service with one of the showstopping cocktails, The Statesman or Jungle Fire and have your camera ready for their unique presentation. The menu is diverse and delicious.

If you need help deciding what to try, anything from the house staples section is a guaranteed winner. Like this Bucatini Amatriciana, with guanciale, spicy slow-roasted tomato sauce and Romano cheese.

Be sure to save room for dessert; with flourless chocolate cake, meringue pie, or creme brulee, you’ll want at least one or two of Zoe’s decadent desserts.
