Refresh your home with 2025's hottest colour trends

Is it time to give your living space some oomph? The 2025 colour trends will inspire you. After staring at the same old walls for who knows how long, painting them in a fresh hue feels like a reset. It can be empowering and metamorphic, changing your room's look, vibe and emotional impact. And, as multi-award-winning interior designer Lee-Ann Lacroix reveals, the latest shades deliver plenty of impact.
“Warm and sophisticated colours are making a comeback, with rich, warming shades leading the way,” says Lee-Ann, the owner of Lee-Ann Lacroix Interiors by Design and also a regular CTV contributor. “Think burgundy, verdant green, earthy terracotta and Purple Basil, which evoke depth and sophistication.”
As Dulux Paints’ Colour of the Year for 2025, Purple Basil is a statement-maker that artfully melds the bold energy of red with the sedate finesse of blue. The outcome is a dramatic infusion of lush richness that can elevate your décor. Purple Basil is versatile, too, complementing a range of shades and design aesthetics.
Another key trend for 2025 is colour-drenching, says Lee-Ann. “This involves using a single colour on walls, floors and furniture to create a cohesive, immersive look.” By eliminating the contrast of typically white trim, doors and ceilings, one shade envelops the entire space, top to bottom, allowing the eye to wander and soak up the cocooning ambience. “Blues, like cobalt blue, are particularly popular for this trend, adding a sense of drama and elegance to a room,” Lee-Ann notes.
Immersion 101
The mood you set depends on the colour you select. For instance, saturating a dining room in a dark, daring hue produces a major wow factor and a sense of luxury. When panelling and cabinetry are included, there’s added architectural depth.
Steeping your principal bedroom in a soft tone, such as warm grey or pale violet, evokes a sense of tranquillity. The absence of visual clutter makes relaxing and drifting off to sleep easier.
The key to this technique, though, is to commit. Choose a colour that pleases you, go all in and be strategic. In a bedroom, corresponding textiles add to the serenity. In a dining room, different paint finishes add to the dazzle.
Colour drenching also helps camouflage less-than-ideal elements of your home. That’s because, instead of accentuating a room’s limitations, this approach blurs boundaries.
The result is that oddly shaped areas seem intentional, and often overlooked spaces appear more polished. While the look is high-end, the appeal is enduring.
If you prefer a more subtle approach to switching things up, Lee-Ann recommends timeless warm neutrals, such as mustard, toasty beige and chocolate brown. “These earthy tones bring warmth and comfort to a space, making them perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere.”
Try an unexpected pop of red
Another on-trend option she mentions involves seeing (the potential of) red. The Unexpected Red Theory caught fire on TikTok thanks to designer Taylor Migliazzo Simon, whose premise is that injecting a shot of red, big or small, in any room will instantly improve how it looks.
Lee-Ann gives this idea a thumbs up. “Adding a pop of red can create a striking contrast and add energy to a space. However,” she cautions, “balancing it with neutral shades is essential to avoid overwhelming the senses.”
More paint colours to try in 2025
In keeping with the design shift toward more expressive, personalized interiors, this year’s other leading colour trends offer plenty of variety and creative possibilities. Lee-Ann’s top picks include:
-
Seafoam green: This light, blue-green hybrid feels restful and calming.
-
Dark verdant green: A sophisticated and dramatic shade that adds depth and dimension to a room.
-
Blissful blues: Mid-tones such as Cerulean Blue, Sky Blue and Cornflower Blue create a bold yet tranquil atmosphere that welcomes you to linger.
-
Plaster pinks: Chicer than the bubble-gum pinks of yesteryear, these warm, feminine shades bring subtle colour and softness to a space.
-
Happy sunshine shades: Vibrant yellows, such as Dulux Paints’ Citrus Punch and Forsythia Blossom, add positivity and energy to a room. Oomph, too.
