No Christmas market list is complete without Dresden, a city that transforms into a winter wonderland during Advent. Its star attraction is the historic Striezelmarkt, Germany's oldest Christmas market, dating back to 1434. Dresden does not just host a market; it offers a symphony of sparkling lights and cherished traditions. Each market that decorates the city has its own character and flair.

Wander among the festive wooden chalets in the Altmarkt square, sample authentic Dresdner Christstollen fruitcake, and marvel at the 14-metre-high Ore Mountain Christmas pyramid spinning over the market. But the magic doesn't stop there. Dresden boasts a "Christmas Mile" that stretches through the city, linking a dozen distinct markets. From the romantic market at the Royal Palace to the medieval spectacle in the Stallhof, there's a unique atmosphere at every turn.

The main market, nestled in the Grote Markt, features classic wooden chalets clustered around a towering Christmas tree, all set against the backdrop of the iconic Belfry.

Follow the mesmerizing Light Experience Trail, a 2.4-km path of fourteen stunning light installations that illuminate the city's historic facades and canals. Grab a cone of crispy frites or a mug of rich hot cocoa, and get swept away by the magic of a Flemish winter.

Few capitals feel as cozy and enchanting as Prague at holiday time. The Old Town glows with the light of a massive Christmas tree, its twinkling branches reaching towards the historic skyline. Rows of festive huts overflow with traditional wooden toys, delicate glass ornaments, and artisanal crafts, creating a treasure trove of unique gifts. Sip fragrant mulled wine while admiring the tapestry of Gothic spires, then snack on sizzling sausages or trdelník, a cinnamon-sugar pastry curled around a stick and toasted over glowing coals, fresh from the market stalls.

The magic extends beyond the Old Town Square, with markets at Wenceslas Square and Prague Castle, offering even more opportunities to soak in the festive atmosphere and discover local delicacies. Carolers, concerts, and a dusting of snow give the whole city the warmth and charm of a classic Christmas movie, making it an unforgettable European Christmas getaway.
