England has many great cities to put on your travel bucket list. While Big Ben and Buckingham Palace are incredible sights, there is more to see than Just London.

Here are eight places you need to visit in England:

Windsor

For fans of the Royal Family, you won't want to miss Windsor Castle. Just a 40-minute train ride from London, Windsor Castle has been home to royals for the last 1,000 years, cementing its position as the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world.

The doors of this famous residence open while the Queen is away. You'll want to book your tickets in advance to secure your chance to discover the castle. Plus, you can walk the extensive grounds, which offer stunning historical backdrops for all your photos.

Stonehenge

Located on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, Stonehenge is England's most iconic historical spot. This mysterious standing stone ring is an archaeological gem, estimated to be on the ancient druid site for more than 5,000 years.

As a popular tourist spot, it gets busy in the day. Plan and book your tour early in the morning, or in the evening for the best chance to avoid the crowds and to see the inner ring up close. 

Bath

Bath is another historic city to visit in England. The Romans founded it to take advantage of the area's hot springs some 2,000 years ago.

 While here, you can explore the incredible history and founding of this city. Visit the Baths and Pump house to see amazing artifacts from Roman Britain, and the ruins of the Temple of Sulis Minerva. 

After visiting the Roman Baths, take a canal tour to see more of this ancient city. Aboard a restored skipper boat, you can view Bath from the River Avon while enjoy a cold beverage.  

Other not-to-miss attractions are the Jane Austen Centre,  and a movie set tour to visit famous filming locations like Netflix’s Bridgerton. Go back in time and try the Bridgerton walking tour to promenade the cobble stone streets and visit key filming locations—including Lady Danbury’s Mansion.to 

The Cotswolds

Designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Cotswolds are a collection of England’s prettiest counties. Here you’ll find your own slice of Medieval England paradise. 

Head to Broadway Village to see the charming antique shops and restaurants, then walk to the nearby Broadway Tower, and imagine yourself living in a world of knights and kings. 

For another setting fit for a fairy tale, head to the majestic Blenheim Palace for a guided tour. Flower-lovers will adore the home to the Dukes of Marlborough, as it has a 2000-acre ornate garden bursting with blooms. 

Oxford

Oxford offers some of the best British pubs in the country dating from the 13th century. After having a pint at the pub, visit the beautiful Oxford University campus, the oldest in the English-speaking world.

Liverpool

For the football fans, Liverpool is the best city to take in a football game for the true experience.

If football isn't your scene, the Liverpool waterfront has all you need, including the well-known Albert Dock, several historical protected buildings, and top museums.

The Lake District

One of the UK's most popular national parks, and a UNESCO World Heritage site, many flock to the Lake District for gorgeous views of 12 of England's largest lakes. Green and expansive, it's beloved by literature fans as the setting that inspired many of the greatest British poets and authors, including William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.

Canterbury

Canterbury is another can’t-miss city to visit in England. It is a cathedral city, home to the Archbishop of Canterbury and UNESCO World Heritage site. 

This city is rich with history beyond its cathedral and Roman roots. Attractions focus on the Roman history of the city and Chaucer’s Medieval England. There are many cafes and boutiques, as well as a lively entertainment scene.
