Are you itching to travel this year but don't want the hassle of going abroad? Visit Alberta, which is home to breathtaking scenery, vibrant city life, and unforgettable adventures, making it the perfect destination for any traveller.

This province has incredible destinations, from the towering peaks of the Rocky Mountains to the rolling prairies and picturesque small towns. Hike through world-famous national parks, take a scenic road trip through the Badlands or escape to a quiet lakeside.

Whether planning a quick weekend getaway or a more extended vacation, here are some of the best things to do in Alberta!

If you are looking for a fun day of activities without going far, check out Alberta's capital, home to the biggest mall in Canada: West Edmonton Mall. With over 800 stores, an indoor water park, a theme park, mini golf, go-kart racing and more, there is something for everyone.

Fort Edmonton

Check out Fort Edmonton Park for something more laid-back. In the summer, it's like stepping back in time with costumed interpreters and recreated streets from different eras of the city's past.

For those who prefer something different, you can explore the stunning trails of the River Valley, catch an Edmonton Oilers or Edmonton Elks game, or visit the Royal Alberta Museum to learn more about western Canada. No matter what you're into, Edmonton has something for everyone!

Calgary: City vibes with mountain views

If you are still looking for a city adventure but with the bonus of seeing the mountains in the background, Calgary is the place to be.

Famous for the Calgary Stampede, a massive rodeo and festival that takes over the city every July with bull riding, live music and midway food.

When you're done channelling your inner cowboy, explore Calgary's trendy neighbourhoods, visit fantastic restaurants or quickly drive to the mountains.

Drumheller: Walk among dinosaurs

Drumheller is the perfect destination for anyone who's ever dreamed of walking among dinosaurs.

The Royal Tyrrell Museum is home to one of the largest collections of dinosaur fossils, and the surrounding Badlands look like something from another world.

Cross the Star Mine Suspension Bridge, originally built for mine workers to cross, which is now open to tourists to remember Drumheller's mining history. While in the area, don't forget to hike through the sandstone rock pillars, which create rock formations known as hoodoos.

For dinner and a show, visit Rosebud Theatre or the outdoor amphitheatre for a night of live entertainment that's sure to impress.

Banff: Nature's Playground

Banff is one of those places that looks even better in real life than in the photos.

It's a dream destination year-round, with towering peaks, crystal-clear lakes and endless outdoor activities. Skiers and snowboarders can hit the slopes at Sunshine Village or Lake Louise, while those who prefer a more relaxed experience can take the Banff Gondola up Sulphur Mountain for panoramic views.

Let's not forget Moraine Lake, Peyto Lake and Lake Louise—their unreal blue waters make them some of the most beautiful lakes to visit.

Jasper: A Scenic Escape

If you love the idea of Banff but are looking for smaller crowds, Jasper is the place to be.

Jasper offers incredible hiking trails that take you past flowing rivers, waterfalls and caves, all with a view of the mountains in the background. A horseback riding tour offers the same stunning views for those not in the mood for hiking.

Columbia Icefield Skywalk

Thrill-seekers should check out the Columbia Icefield Skywalk, a glass-floored walkway high above a deep valley where they can truly enjoy the view.

But what makes Jasper truly special is its Dark Sky Preserve status. With almost no light pollution, it's one of the best places in the world for stargazing. Grab a blanket, find a quiet spot by a lake and watch the stars like never before.
