Pibòn Festival

Where: ByWard Market District, 55 ByWard Market Sq., Ottawa, ON 

When: Until February 1, 2026 

This Indigenous winter festival celebrates heritage in the ByWard Market. Walk through outdoor art installations, enjoy toe-tapping fiddle music, shop Indigenous goods and witness traditional hide-scraping right in the centre of Ottawa’s cultural hub. You can also enjoy warm refreshments to stave off the cold.  

GROTTO: The Bill Staubi Collection 

Where: Ottawa Arts Gallery, 50 Mackenzie King Bridge, Ottawa, ON 

When: Until February 8, 2026 

This unique art exhibit showcases the personal collection of Ottawa queer icon Bill Staubi. The works span four decades, exploring activism, identity and human connection. As it closes on February 8, this is your last chance to see these curated pieces.

The Lantern Grove 

Where: Confederation Park, Elgin St., Ottawa, ON 

When: Until February 16, 2025 

Every evening during Winterlude, Confederation Park becomes an enchanted forest of glowing lanterns and magical soundscapes. Wander through the grove and immerse yourself in this dreamy winter wonderland for a perfect February night. On weekends, you can watch a short, animated film about the story of the lanterns at Forest Cinema.  

Chocolate Lover’s Tour

Where: 200 Dalhousie St., Ottawa, ON 

When: Saturdays and Sundays in February 2026 

The ByWard Market is a food lover’s dream, and if you have a sweet tooth, this walking tour is for you. Included is a pain au chocolat, a Mexican mole enchilada, chocolate cake, gelato and locally crafted chocolate, plus a knowledgeable local guide who will teach you everything you could ever want to know about the world’s favourite sweet treat.

Winterlude Mini Pow Wow 

Where: Canadian Museum of History, 100 Laurier St., Gatineau, QC

Don't be fooled by the “mini” in its name—this Pow Wow is only small in terms of duration! Experience the Grand Entry, intertribals and invited drums, plus dancers of many styles and ages at the Canadian Museum of History on February 1. This vibrant display of culture is the perfect indoor experience to warm up during Winterlude.  

The Drowning Girls

Where: Kanata Theatre, 1 Ron Maslin Way, Ottawa, ON 

When: February 4 to 14 

Three bathtubs. Three murders. Three ghosts. Edwardian brides Bessie, Alice and Margaret all have the misfortune of being married to the treacherous, womanizing George Joseph Smith, and they’re ready to tell their tales from beyond the grave. This Canadian play by Kanata Theatre recounts the events leading to their deaths in a haunting story of love and betrayal.

Where: The Gladstone Theatre, 910 Gladstone Ave., Ottawa, ON 

When: February 4 to 14, 2026 

This Pulitzer Prize-winning play is an emotional tour de force that explores the complex dynamics of a dysfunctional family in the American South. Characters’ motives collide, secrets come to light, and resentments fester under the scorching Oklahoma sun in this harrowing story, presented by Elevator Theatre Company.  

Undercurrents Festival

Where: Arts Court, 2 Daly Ave., Ottawa, ON 

When: February 4 to 14, 2026 

This contemporary theatre festival showcases talent from Ottawa and beyond, bringing together artists from all walks of life. Undercurrents showcases programming ranging from improv to experimental theatre to live music, bringing fresh works by emerging artists to the stage.  

In Celebration of Black History Month: Author  André  Alexis  

Where: Bayview Yards, 7 Bayview Station Rd., Ottawa, ON 

When: February 5, 2026 

As part of the Ottawa Public Library’s Black History Month programming, award-winning author André Alexis is visiting to discuss his book, Fifteen Dogs, and his new short story collection, Other Worlds. Alexis will also be discussing his relationship with Ottawa over the years. A Q&A and book signing will follow the talk.  

Greely Winter Carnival

When: February 5 to 8, 2026 

Head to Greely for some good old-fashioned winter fun this February. With a plethora of events across four days, there’s something for the whole family! Adults can enjoy the charity bingo and comedy show, while the kids can have a blast at the glow dance, magic show, sleigh ride and more. The carnival also includes a pancake breakfast, skating, crafts and balloon animals.  

Elmdale Bookfest 2026 

Where: 49 Iona St., Ottawa, ON 

When: February 5 to 8, 2026 

Pick your next read for a great price at one of Ottawa’s most anticipated used book sales. With thousands of titles to choose from, you can take home a literary escape for less—and you can even pair it with a baked good to complement your reading experience. Proceeds from the sale go to special initiatives and enriching the school’s facilities.  

Shiverfest

Manotick’s Shiverfest celebration is back for another weekend of fun in 2026. Old favourites like the outdoor bonfire and pancake breakfast are back, along with new ways to have fun, including line dancing and s’mores! Other activities include trivia, a chilli cookoff, a village scavenger hunt and a pancake breakfast.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to watch films in a theatre made of snow? The Asinabka Festival’s annual Unikkaaqtuarniq Snow Screen features films by Indigenous artists. Though the cultures showcased in these films are diverse—from Canada’s Inuit to the Sami of Scandinavia—they are united by their history of resiliency.  

BARBEGAZI

Where: ByWard Market District, 55 ByWard Market Sq., Ottawa, ON 

When: February 6 to 8, 2026 

High-octane winter sports come to the ByWard Market this February, bringing the thrills—and chills—of this program’s first-ever appearance in Ottawa. The stunt shows, which will reach up to 40 feet in the air, are free all weekend long, bringing tricks, speed and style to the market’s snowy landscape.  

Valentine’s Collage Card Workshop

When: February 7, 2026 

If you appreciate the value of a handmade card or want to give something special to someone special, this workshop is for you. You'll create collage masterpieces with thrifty materials, curating a mini masterpiece for Valentine’s Day.

The Ottawa Black Creatives Hub Showcase

This Black History Month, celebrate Black excellence with live performances by musicians, dancers, poets and storytellers. The event also features a film screening and inspiring speeches by the organizations that are shaping Ottawa’s arts and culture scene. With creatives, changemakers and community builders all in one room, this show is one to watch.  

Shaun Boothe and the Unauthorized Biography Series 

Where: Meridian Theatres @ Centrepointe, 101 Centrepointe Dr., Ottawa, ON 

When: February 7, 2026 

Blending storytelling, education and entertainment, Shaun Boothe will take you on a hip-hop journey through influential figures of Black history and culture. From Bob Marley to Serena Williams, Martin Luther King Jr. to Oprah Winfrey and Jimmy Hendrix to Kobe Bryant, this performance showcases the lives and works of Black icons.

The coldest music festival in the world hits the stage in Gatineau, bringing hot beats to a chilly night. The lineup includes Steve Aoki, Victor Rodriguez and Ali Harb, plus interactive installations, comfort foods and roaming yetis who will pose for the perfect photo op.

Gatineau Loppet

Each year, nearly 2,500 cross-country skiers gather in the National Capital Region to compete in world-class races through the trails of Gatineau Park. Both recreational and elite skiers are welcome to a weekend of curated trails. Pick from a variety of distances and come out to the Gatineau Loppet’s 48th year in operation! 

Los Angeles Guitar Quartet: Guitarfest! 

Where: Carleton Dominion Chalmers Centre, 355 Cooper St., Ottawa, ON 

When: February 14, 2026 

The Chamberfest Concert Series is back with another installment this February 14. This performance is classical guitar at its best, showcasing two of the world’s leading guitar quartets. The night begins with the Canadian Guitar Quartet’s signature virtuosity, followed by the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet’s medley of South American folk music.

Big Bang Festival
