Almost 9 in 10 adults believe in 'love at first sight' with their dogs

Have you fallen head over heels for your furry friend? You're not alone. According to a recent study, an overwhelming 87 per cent of dog owners believe in "love at first sight" with their canine companions. This sentiment often surpasses the emotional connection many feel with their human partners.

The survey, which sampled 2,000 dog owners in committed relationships, reveals that a remarkable 80 per cent of respondents experienced an immediate bond with their pet, compared to only 69 per cent who felt the same way with their partner.

Despite the widespread love-at-first-sight phenomenon, not everyone bonds instantly with their pets. One in five respondents admitted it took time to warm up to their furry companions, illustrating that every relationship has a unique timeline. However, those who dedicated time to building their relationships reported even stronger connections, with 74 per cent stating that their bond with their dog deepened significantly due to the effort involved.

Interestingly, the study, commissioned by The Honest Kitchen and conducted by Talker Research, highlights how much dogs mean to their owners and the special place they hold in their hearts. For instance, more than three-quarters of respondents (76 per cent) consider food their "love language," showing affection by providing the best meals for their pets—sometimes even better than what they prepare for themselves!

Many respondents highlighted the significant time commitment in pet ownership, often comparing it to raising children. Despite the challenges, 83 per cent of dog owners expressed that the experience exceeded their expectations, affirming that while pet ownership can be messy and demanding, they wouldn't trade it for anything.
