There's an undeniable romance to travelling by train. Sitting by the window and watching the landscape unfold before your eyes instills a sense of timeless elegance, something Rocky Mountaineer has built into its iconic rail journeys through Western Canada for nearly four decades.
"GoldLeaf is about more than just your seat on the train. It is the experience of enjoying chef-prepared meals crafted with locally inspired ingredients, attentive service, and breathtaking panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies,” says Patricia Marques, Managing Director, Retail & Call Centre Sales & Operations at CAA North & East Ontario, who travelled the First Passage to the West.
For 2027, that classic route comes with a new level of comfort off the train. Rocky Mountaineer's First Passage to the West Rockies Refined package adds Fairmont hotel stays, private guided touring and premium transfers to its 10-day journey between Vancouver and Calgary.
A new level of luxury for 2027

Rockies Refined is a GoldLeaf-only package with limited availability for the 2027 season, built for a more personalized journey with added space, privacy and comfort. Two days are spent onboard in GoldLeaf Service, featuring bi-level glass-dome coaches, regionally inspired dining and expansive views of the Canadian Rockies.

Off the train, guests stay in Fairmont Gold Rooms throughout, including a limited number of Lakeview Rooms at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Private sightseeing tours and transfers are included at every stop, along with private airport transfers to start and end the trip.
The route: Vancouver to Calgary in 10 days

Travelling eastbound, the journey begins with two nights in Vancouver at the Fairmont Waterfront, including a private four-hour city tour through Gastown, Granville Island and Stanley Park.
From there, guests board the train for the first of two days in GoldLeaf Service, travelling through desert canyons and lush valleys to Kamloops for an overnight stay.
The second train day carries the journey into the heart of the Rockies, past the historic Spiral Tunnels, before arriving at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise for two nights beside the lake's turquoise waters.
A private transfer through the Bow Valley continues to Banff, where three nights at the Fairmont Banff Springs include a full free day and a private sightseeing tour up the Icefields Parkway, taking in the Columbia Icefield, the Athabasca Glacier and the Glacier Skywalk.
The final leg is a guided transfer to Calgary, with a wildlife tour and a ride on the Banff Gondola along the way, ending with a night at the Fairmont Palliser before departure. You can also travel westbound, from Calgary to Vancouver, following the same itinerary in reverse.
