Summary

  • Five private beach destinations provide secluded escapes in The Bahamas and Greece.
  • Experiences range from snorkelling and horseback rides to black-sand beaches and lazy rivers.
  • These spots combine relaxation with activities, creating memorable shore days during cruises.

Imagine stepping ashore onto a stretch of powder-soft sand, where the water glows in shades of turquoise, and the only items on your agenda are snorkelling, beachcombing or finding the perfect spot beneath a swaying palm tree.

Sometimes, all you need is a pristine beach, crystal-clear water, and the freedom to unwind—some destinations make the cruise worthwhile, while others are the very reason to embark on one.

From the white-sand beaches of the Bahamas to Santorini's volcanic shores and Mexico's Caribbean coast, these destinations offer a different kind of cruise day, one that's best spent by the water.

If you're already thinking about your next cruise, these private beach destinations deserve a closer look.

Perfect Day CocoCay, Bahamas

Perfect Day Coco Cay

Royal Caribbean

From waterslides to quiet stretches of beach, Perfect Day CocoCay makes it easy to keep the whole family happy.

Royal Caribbean's private island in The Bahamas blends white-sand beaches, calm turquoise waters and family-friendly attractions. Guests can relax on Chill Island, swim at South Beach or Harbour Beach, or snorkel in the clear waters surrounding the island.

Families will find plenty to keep everyone entertained. Younger visitors can cool off at Splashaway Bay and Captain Jill's Galleon, while Oasis Lagoon, one of the Caribbean's largest freshwater pools, offers plenty of space to swim and relax.

Waterslides, splash areas, and tropical gardens add to the island's appeal, while complimentary dining, beach chairs, and tram transportation make a full day ashore easy.

Whether your family prefers an action-packed day or a more relaxed afternoon by the water, CocoCay offers a little bit of both.

Royal Beach Club Santorini, Greece

Royal Beach Club

Royal Caribbean

Beyond Santorini's famous cliffside towns lies a different side of the island, where black-sand beaches meet the Aegean Sea.

Royal Beach Club Santorini welcomed its first guests in 2026, bringing Royal Caribbean's first European beach club to one of the Mediterranean's most iconic islands.

Unlike some cruise line destinations, Royal Beach Club Santorini takes a more relaxed approach to a day ashore. Set along Santorini's volcanic coastline, the experience centres on black-sand beaches, sweeping Aegean Sea views and authentic Greek cuisine, offering a distinctly Mediterranean take on the traditional beach day.

Days here are spent swimming in clear water, lingering over long seaside lunches and taking in the dramatic scenery that sets Santorini apart from many other cruise destinations.

Many visitors pair a stop at Royal Beach Club Santorini with time in Oia or Fira, creating a day that combines Santorini's famous blue-domed churches, whitewashed buildings and cliffside views with a chance to unwind on the coast.

Princess Cays, Bahamas

Princess Cays

Princess Cruises

Despite its royal-sounding name, Princess Cays spans roughly 20 acres and features more than a mile of coastline, standing out for its laid-back atmosphere and natural beauty.

Located on the southern tip of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, Princess Cruises' private destination is defined by calm seas, gently swaying palms and expansive beachfront views.

Beyond relaxing on the beach, guests can kayak, paddleboard, and snorkel in warm, turquoise waters, or explore Eleuthera to experience local culture and scenery. Colourful craft markets showcase Bahamian artisans, while private beachfront bungalows offer a comfortable place to relax by the water.

A water sports centre offers visitors activities such as kayaking, snorkelling, and aqua bike rentals. Meanwhile, thrill-seekers can hop aboard a banana boat for a lively spin across the clear Bahamian waters.

Time here is best spent floating in calm water, wandering the shoreline and lingering over ocean views. Guests can also play volleyball or settle in for a seaside barbecue lunch at the destination's open-air dining pavilions.

It's the kind of place where a beach chair, a good book and a few hours in the sun can easily become the highlight of the day.

Half Moon Cay, Bahamas

Half Moon Cay

Holland America Line

Known for its distinctive crescent shape, Holland America Line’s Half Moon Cay is the kind of beach destination that encourages visitors to slow down and stay awhile.

Officially known as RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay's 2.5-mile stretch of powder-soft sand makes it easy to find a quiet spot to swim, sunbathe or take in the view.

The island combines natural beauty with a handful of memorable experiences. Horseback and surf rides along the shoreline remain among its best-known activities, while the lagoon and surrounding waters offer opportunities for kayaking, paddleboarding, and snorkelling.

A good tip is to bring your own snorkel gear if you have it and head out early in the morning, when calmer conditions often make it easier to spot fish and other marine life in the clear water.

In the island's shallow waters, stingrays are another familiar sight, and visitors can learn more about them at Stingray Cove.

There's more than just beach time on offer. Visitors can also take advantage of the island's sports facilities, including pickleball courts and basketball, volleyball, and soccer courts.

Even lunch comes with an island flavour, with Caribbean-inspired dishes like fresh fish tacos and jerk chicken, served just steps from the beach.

Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas

Royal Beach Club on Paradise Island, Nassau, Bahamas

Royal Caribbean

Beyond Nassau's lively cruise port and historic streets lies Paradise Island, where turquoise waters and a distinctly Bahamian atmosphere create an easy seaside escape.

Royal Caribbean's Royal Beach Club Paradise Island combines beachfront relaxation with Bahamian cuisine, live music and local culture. The destination features stretches of white sand, pools, private cabanas and waterfront spaces designed for everything from quiet beach days to lively social gatherings.

Visitors can unwind at Paradise Beach, where calm waters, beachside loungers and all-inclusive dining encourage a slower pace. For a more energetic atmosphere, Party Cove centres around live music, DJ performances and The Floating Flamingo, billed as the world's largest swim-up bar.

Located just across the harbour from Nassau, the beach club offers an easy way to experience another side of The Bahamas. The experience feels less like a port stop and more like a day spent on the island.
