Top 3 tasks to get your ride winter-ready

Punishingly cold temperatures. Wet, slippery snow. Dangerous, blinding blizzards.

Driving in winter is no easy chore. Here’s how you can prepare your vehicle for the cold months ahead.

Change to winter tires

Despite their name, all-season tires lose elasticity at around -7°C, meaning drivers have less traction on icy roads. The rubber in winter tires doesn’t harden like all-season ones, offering a better grip. Switching over can also save you money; get a 5% discount on CAA Auto Insurance1 premiums when you install four winter tires no later than November 20. The tires must be kept on the vehicle until April 15.

Test your car battery

It’s the easiest way to ruin anyone’s morning; after braving the cold to clean off your car, you get inside only to discover it won’t start. Getting your battery tested can save you that headache. Fully charged automotive batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts. Fortunately, CAA’s Mobile Battery Service will come to your location, test, replace (if necessary), and recycle your battery on the spot. CAA Members also get up to $25 off on the purchase of a CAA Premium Car Battery. Get a battery quote here.

Take preventive measures

Many auto repair and maintenance tasks can be done right at your home, so there's no need to wait at the garage! Our licensed mechanics will assess the health of your vehicle, providing necessary repairs and maintenance to ensure a long lifespan for your vehicle. Delaying car servicing routines can lead to engine damage and compromise safety, but with our pit crew by your side, you can have peace of mind knowing your vehicle is in good hands.

Mobile Auto Repair offers two types of appointments: Diagnostic and Multi-Point Inspection, each serving a unique purpose in assessing your vehicle.

During a diagnostic appointment, we utilize our expertise, advanced tools, and technology to identify the issue accurately. Afterwards, we source the required parts from our extensive network, provide you with a written quote, and complete the repair with your approval.

A multi-point inspection is particularly useful when you want to assess the car's overall health. We provide you with a detailed report on your car's health, highlighting any potential issues or areas that require attention. Book your Mobile Auto Repair appointment here.

Winter driving poses unique challenges; conditions can rapidly deteriorate, and frigid temperatures may make seeking out assistance prohibitively difficult.
