Five tips for your next long stay vacation

As the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, Canadian snowbirds head south and to Europe in search of sandy beaches and milder temperatures. It’s a great lifestyle of perpetual summer, but it requires a bit of planning. Here’s a few tips to get you started:

  • Purchase your travel insurance as you book all your plans, so you are covered for cancellations.
  • Make sure you have adequate medical coverage for the full length of your stay.
  • Make sure you have enough of your medication (if you require any) to last your entire stay.
  • Inform trusted neighbours or family members you will be out of the country so your house can be monitored.
  • Check your electricity, HVAC, and plumbing systems and unplug all of your appliances to ensure there are no incidents risks while you are away.

Don’t forget trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance

Overseas medical bills aren’t the only way to ruin a trip. Trip cancellation and trip interruption insurance will protect you against both bad luck and tough circumstances. Here’s what trip cancellation and trip interruption covers:

  • If inclement weather forces you to miss a flight on your way to board a cruise, it’ll pay up to $2,500 to book a seat on the next available plane.
  • If the airline loses your luggage, it’ll pay up to $500 to purchase new clothing and essentials.
Add trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage for your next vacation.
