Heat waves and climate change
Extreme heat events or heat waves are a series of days where the temperature greatly exceeds the average for that location. Unlike the sticky “dog days of summer” in July and August when the climate is hot and humid but normal, heat waves that exceed the norm are linked to climate change.
Stay safe in extreme heat
Spending too long in very hot temperatures can cause heat exhaustion, heat stroke, vomiting, dehydration, headaches, trouble breathing, dizziness and confusion. During heat events, keep children, the elderly, pets and yourself away from direct sunlight and preferably indoors where there is access to cool drinks.
