Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Deliveries, the Business Analyst plays a pivotal role in ensuring technical execution aligns with strategic business objectives; translating complex requirements into actionable specifications for both development and data teams. They possess a keen analytical mindset, a deep understanding of the software development lifecycle, and a passion for clarifying how technology can best support the organization's evolving needs.

Responsibilities include gathering and refining business requirements from diverse stakeholders and transforming them into high-fidelity functional and technical documentation. By bridging the gap between business vision and technical implementation, the Business Analyst ensures that data structures and software features are built with accuracy, integrity, and scalability in mind.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams is essential, involving a deep understanding of both data architecture and application development. From defining data mapping for reporting solutions to outlining user stories for web and mobile assets, the Business Analyst ensures that every technical deliverable is purpose-built to drive enterprise value and enhance the member experience.

Responsibilities

Technical Requirements Gathering:

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to elicit, analyze, and document comprehensive requirements for both software development and data-driven initiatives.
  • Translate high-level business goals into detailed functional specifications, user stories, and technical requirements.
  • Ensure a clear and consistent understanding of project scope across both business and technical audiences.

Development Team Alignment (Dev):

  • Create detailed documentation to support application and web development, including user journeys, wireframes, and API requirements.
  • Work closely with developers to clarify functional logic, ensuring that technical solutions remain aligned with the original business intent.
  • Identify and document technical dependencies and potential constraints within the software architecture.

Data Team Alignment (Data):

  • Define data requirements for enterprise reporting, including data schemas, source-to-target mappings, and business logic for ETL processes.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to ensure that data models are built to support accurate, scalable, and high-integrity reporting.
  • Assist in the definition of data governance standards to ensure consistency across disparate datasets.

Process Modeling and Visualization:

  • Utilize process mapping and flow-charting tools to visualize current and future-state business processes.
  • Develop technical diagrams that illustrate how data and information flow between various enterprise systems.
  • Use visualization to identify logic gaps or potential friction points in proposed technical solutions.

Documentation and Presentation:

  • Develop and maintain Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), functional specifications, and technical data dictionaries.
  • Summarize complex technical trade-offs and project requirements into clear presentations for executive leadership.
  • Tailor communication styles to ensure both developers and non-technical stakeholders are aligned on the "how" and "why" of technical implementations.

Quality Assurance and Validation:

  • Participate in the review of technical designs and data models to ensure they meet the documented business requirements.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to develop test cases and acceptance criteria that validate the integrity of both data and software deliverables.
  • Conduct functional testing and data validation to ensure end-to-end solutions perform as intended.

Tool Proficiency:

  • Utilize SQL for data exploration and validation to ensure requirements are grounded in data reality.
  • Use MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and visualization tools (Visio/Lucidchart) for documentation and analysis.
  • Work with collaboration and documentation platforms like SharePoint, Teams, and Wiki-based tools to maintain a "single source of truth."

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand their unique data and technical needs and provide analytical support.
  • Act as the primary conduit between business units and the technical teams (Dev and Data) to ensure seamless integration and communication.
