Flight Delay Benefit

Travel is full of possibilities, even when plans change unexpectedly.

What is the Flight Delay Benefit?

Flight Delay Benefit is a feature of CAA’s trip cancellation and interruption insurance. The benefit is a travel delay support service offered at no additional cost to eligible travellers. When a registered flight is delayed by two hours or more, travellers may receive either airport lounge access or a monetary allowance, subject to the Terms and Conditions. It is delivered through a platform operated by an independent third-party service provider.

How it works

Travellers will be advised of the Flight Delay Benefit in their coverage confirmation email. If they purchased an eligible product that includes Trip Cancellation & Interruption Insurance, the email will include a registration link. The travellers can click the link and follow the instructions on the platform to register their flight.

Benefits

The awarded benefit to the traveller depends on the eligible delay. Here is an overview of the benefits:

  • 2-hour delay: $50 or lounge pass (where available)

  • 6-hour delay: $150

Only one benefit may be chosen per eligible traveller per registered flight at the two-hour delay threshold: either lounge access or the $50 CAD monetary allowance. In addition to the benefit available after a two-hour delay, each eligible traveller is entitled to an additional monetary allowance of $150 CAD, subject to the applicable maximum payout.

The benefit is made available to you if you purchased an individual or family travel insurance policy on or after September 1, 2026, provided your policy is in force and includes Trip Cancellation & Interruption Insurance. Your flight must also be registered in the platform at least six hours before the scheduled departure time.

No. The Flight Delay Benefit is not available to you if you are covered under a group travel insurance plan.

Yes. Your flight must be registered in the platform at least six (6) hours before the original scheduled departure time. If your flight is not registered on time, you will not be eligible for the benefit.

When more than one insured person is registered for the same trip under the same policy, one insured person must be designated as the Primary Contact. The Primary Contact will receive all communications and, where applicable, all monetary allowances on behalf of all eligible travellers covered under that policy for the registered trip. You should therefore ensure that the Primary Contact is the appropriate person to receive notifications and payments for your group.

The Primary Contact must have access to a smartphone or mobile device capable of receiving SMS or email notifications and connecting to the internet. This is required so communications, lounge access, and benefit payments can be processed through the platform.

You must be able to receive electronic communications and, where applicable, electronic payments in order to use the service. If you cannot receive SMS or email notifications, connect to the internet, or receive payment by the available electronic payment methods, no lounge access or monetary allowance will be issued.

No. The Flight Delay Benefit is only available when your flight has been registered in the platform at least six (6) hours before the original scheduled departure time.

No. The service requires the Primary Contact to receive SMS or email notifications and access the online platform. If you cannot receive these communications, the benefit cannot be processed, and no lounge access or monetary allowance will be issued.

You may receive access to an airport lounge, subject to availability through the designated booking platform, or a monetary allowance of $50 CAD if lounge access is unavailable or not selected.

In addition to the benefit available after a two-hour delay, you are entitled to an additional monetary allowance of $150 CAD, subject to the applicable maximum payout.

No. Only one benefit may be chosen per eligible traveller per registered flight at the two-hour delay threshold: either lounge access or the $50 CAD monetary allowance.

No. Lounge access is subject to availability and operational capacity of third-party providers. It may not be available at all airports or for all flights.

No. The Flight Delay Benefit is separate from the Trip Cancellation & Interruption Insurance benefits available under your policy. If you are entitled to compensation for a covered situation under the policy, that entitlement is not reduced by any amount received under the Flight Delay Benefit, subject to the applicable terms, conditions, and limits.

Yes. You may register each flight you intend to board as part of your itinerary, including connecting and return flights. However, flights with overlapping departure times or concurrent schedules cannot be registered.

For eligible single trip plans, you may register up to six flights, with a maximum payout of $400 CAD per eligible traveller per policy.

For the Multi-Trip Vacation Package Plan you may register up to 18 flights, with a maximum payout of $600 CAD per eligible traveller per policy year.

Delay times must be verified through the platform's automated monitoring system or another source approved by the insurer. Self-reported delays are not accepted.

No. No new benefit is payable if the flight is cancelled. However, if your flight was first delayed and you already received a lounge pass or monetary allowance because the delay met the applicable threshold, that benefit will not be recovered or requested back solely because the flight is later cancelled.

All monetary allowances are issued to the Primary Contact designated in the platform. The Primary Contact receives communications and payments on behalf of one or more eligible travellers.

Payments are made by Interac e-transfer or direct deposit, depending on the option selected at registration.

For general questions about the Flight Delay Benefit, you should contact your Club Associate or travel insurance agent.

You should contact Partner Care for assistance. Partner Care can review the registration details and, if applicable, resend the notification to the Primary Contact.

If lounge access is not available through the platform, you should select the $50 CAD monetary allowance instead, subject to the Terms and Conditions. If a lounge pass has already been issued but you cannot use it for any reason, you should contact Partner Care for assistance.
